Frequently asked questions

Because of my busy schedule, it's best to book as soon as possible. I usually book eight to twelve weeks in advance, sometimes I do have last minute spots open up.

When will my session be?

Newborn sessions are designed for babies ten days and younger. That means your session will take place sometime within the first two weeks of life. The reason why I photograph babies so early is simple. They are much sleepier and retain their newborn curl, therefore making them easier to pose. After fourteen days, newborns tend to stay awake longer, develop baby acne and are a little more alert. The sweet spot for newborn sessions is between days 5 and day 7.

Can I pick the poses?

You are more than welcome to give me an idea of which poses are your favourite. I make no guarantees that we will be able to achieve specific poses. Each pose depends entirely on the baby. Sometimes babies don't like their arm sitting a certain way or being on their side. When I pose, I will usually go through sometimes two or three variations depending on the baby's temperament.

I'd like to book a maternity session on it's own, is this possible?

At this time, maternity sessions may only be booked in conjunction with a newborn or birth session.

Yes! A $350 retainer and signed contract is due within five (5) days of booking. The retainer is non-refundable and is used to secure your spot with me.

Do I need to bring anything?

No. My studio is fully equipped with everything we will need for a successful session. I have a variety of props including blankets, buckets, baskets, headbands, hats and more. It isn't necessary for you to bring anything with you, but if there is something of sentimental value don't hesitate to bring it along. We will try to incorporate it if we can. You can view more images of my studio and the type of props I have here.

Do you have a referral program?

Yes! A referral is the highest compliment a photographer can receive. For any friend or family memeber you refer that books with me, they will receive $75 off their session. As a thank you, you will receive a $50 credit towards a future session. There is no limit, therefore, if you refer 4 individuals, that's a $200 credit towards a future session!

Can I bring my parents to the session?

Newborn sessions are for parents and baby only. I do not allow my clients to bring additional people to their newborn session. My focus is to ensure baby is kept warm and happy. Bringing additional people can become incredibly overwhelming and stressful. Because I move around a lot during the session there is limited space, and no room to have extra people. Of course, you may bring your partner and siblings!

Don't sweat it!! I schedule a very limited number of sessions each month. Once your retainer has been paid, we will schedule your newborn session on your due date. This date is tentative. Once your baby has arrived simply give me a ring and we'll finalize a date for your session within the first ten days of life.

I'm still unsure, can you hold my spot?

I completely understand that choosing the right photographer for you is a difficult decision to make. Unfortunately, due to my busy schedule, sessions cannot be held without a signed contract and retainer. If you have any questions or concerns don't hesistate to drop me a line!

Do you capture Cake smash and milestone baby sessions?

I do! Baby milestone moments are important to capture. At Luve Ashlyn Photography, I pride myself on building a relationship with each and every client. Many of the families I capture, I build a close friendship with. At this time, I am only capturing milestone moments for existing clients who have booked a newborn or birth session with me. Mini sessions are scheduled during the spring, summer and fall months and are open to new and existing clients. Sign up for my e-mail newsletter to be the first to know when mini sessions are scheduled.

Do You Mentor?

I do! My focus is always my clients, therefore, I only take on a very limited number of mentoring sessions each year. To learn more about my mentoring program and what I offer, please click here.

There is so much that goes into a newborn session, ask my mama's, they'll tell you :)! My newborn sessions can last anywhere from two to three hours depending on babies needs. I like to take my time and perfect each pose to ensure that the end product is everything you imagine it to be. Following the session, I take the time to hand edit each of your images delicately and precisely, paying close attention to all of the little details. The time, patience, detail and precision needed to ensure not only a successful session, but an incredible experience from start to end is incredibly important to me. It is because of all these things that my pricing is firm and not negotiable.

Will you take pictures of the family?

That is entirely up to you! I love taking intimate shots of parents and siblings with baby. It's important to let me know beforehand whether you'd like these additional shots. It takes a little more time and detail, letting me know in advance helps me to better prepare :).

I'm interested in having you capture my birth, what do I need to do?

The decision to have your birth documented is one you wont regret. First, contact me as soon as possible. I only accept two birth clients each month. As such, my birth photography calendar tends to book three to four months in advance. I have shot all types of births, from hospitals, to home births and birthing centre births. Some mama's get a little nervous when it comes to having a birth photographer present, I can assure you, I have seen anything and everything. Please contact me directly to discuss birth photography.
